Rush

No two people will have the same Rush experience. Some people may come knowing that this sisterhood is the one for them, while others may come, enticed by the free food. Regardless of their reason for coming, everyone develops a better understanding of Sigma Psi Zeta and the sisters in this chapter.

The events during this two-week period is a good opportunity to discover whether Sigma Psi Zeta is a good fit for you, particularly if you were unable to attend our preview events. While we may seem similar to other sororities, what makes us different is our values and the people in our sorority.

Rush is designed to be a fun yet completely non-binding process, so we encourage you to come by and learn more about us. We are excited to learn about you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I Rush SYZ?
Rush is meant to be a fun, completely
non binding process. It is simply an opportunity to learn more about our sorority while having a great time! If you're still intimidated, bring some friends!

How is SYZ different from other sororities?
On paper, all sororities seem rather similar. Every sorority supports a national philanthropy, contributes to their community, and plans social activities. However, what makes Sigma Psi Zeta different are the women who make up the organization, and the values we stand for. When choosing a sorority to rush or pledge, you should ask yourself how relaxed and comfortable you feel with the sisters, and whether or not you can see yourself hanging out with them in the future. That is what is most
important, because sisterhood lasts a lifetime.

Do you have a brother fraternity?
Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc. does not have a brother fraternity. As a sorority that prides itself in strong, independent women, we have made a deliberate choice to remain unaffiliated with another Greek organization.

What is considered the "typical" Sigma sister?
There is no "typical" Sigma sister. Sisterhood is not a mold for women to fit into. Each sister contributes her own talent and character to the greater organization, making us what we are today. We hope that each sister will change our sisterhood, helping it to grow and evolve.

Will contacting other sororities hurt my chances for a bid?
Absolutely not. We encourage all to search carefully for a sorority that can meet their needs. The more information you gather, the better able you will be to make an informed decision.

Is Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc Asian/Asian American exclusive?
Definitely not. Our sisters come from all cultures, including but not limited to Haitian, Thai, Laos, Cambodian, Korean, Chinese, Italian, Filipino, Vietnamese, Japanese, African American, and Indian. Although we are culturally oriented, we are by no means exclusive to Asian/Asian Americans.

Does Sigma Psi Zeta haze?
Sigma Psi Zeta National enforces a strict non-hazing policy. Our organization's national philanthropy is "to combat the violence against women." We are against the disrespect of women in all its forms. The purpose of pledging is to help stimulate bonds between the members of a pledge class as well as with the sisters of Sigma Psi Zeta. To mentally, physically or emotionally degrade our pledges would contradict our mission statement, defy university policies, and go against our individual beliefs. Hazing has no place in our organization.
